Na-Alginat (atau Natrium Alginat / Alginat / Algin) merupakan zat yang terdapat pada rumput laut coklat (Phaeophyceae). Rumput laut coklat penghasil alginat (alginofit) biasanya tumbuh di perairan sub tropis terutama untuk jenis Macrocytis, Laminaria, Aschophyllum, Nerocytis, Ecklonia, Fucus dan Sargassum. Sedangkan rumput laut coklat yang tumbuh di perairan tropis seperti di Indonesia terutama jenis-jenis Sargassum, Turbinaria, Padina, Dyctyota dan yang paling banyak ditemukan adalah jenis Sargassum dan Turbinaria. Asam alginat adalah suatu getah selaput (membran mucilage) yang disebut juga gummi alami, sedangkan alginat merupakan bentuk garam dari asam alginat. Gummi alami merupakan suatu polisakarida , dan secara umum polisakarida yang terdapat pada rumput laut disebut phycocolloid. Polisakarida terpenting pada rumput laut coklat adalah asam alginat dan turunannya seperti fukoidan, funoran dan laminaran yang merupakan komponen penyusun dinding sel seperti halnya selulosa dan pektin.

POTENSI SUMBER DAYA ALAM (SDA)
Di perairan Indonesia terdapat sekitar 28 spesies rumput laut coklat yang berasal dari enam genus diantaranya yaitu Dyctyota, Padine, Hormophysa, Sargassum, Turbinaria dan Hydroclathrus. Spesies rumput laut yang telah diidentifikasi yaitu Sargassum sp. sebanyak 14 spesies, Turbinaria sebanyak 4 spesies, Hormophysa baru teridentifikasi 1 spesies, Padina 4 spesies, Dyctyota 5 spesies dan Hydroclathrus 1 spesies. Jenis-jenis rumput laut tersebut tersebar pada beberapa daerah di Indonesia

POTENSI EKONOMI PRODUK
Na-Alginat banyak digunakan banyak industri seperti industri makanan, minuman, obat-obatan, kosmetik, kertas, detergen, cat, tekstil, vernis, fotografi, kulit buatan dan lain-lain. Dalam industri zat ini digunakan sebagai pembentuk gel (gelling agent), pengemulsi dan penstabil emulsi (emulsifying dan stabilizing agent), pensuspensi (suspending agent), pengikat (binding agent), penghalus (finishing agent), pengeras kain (stiffening agent), pembentuk struktur (sizing agent), penjernih (clarifing agent) dan sebagainya. Untuk kebutuhan industri di Indonesia yang saat ini terus berkembang, kebutuhan Na-Alginat masih disuplai melalui impor dari beberapa negara seperti Perancis, Inggris, RRC, dan Jepang dalam jumlah 599.000 kg dengan nilai US $ 2.773.517. Dari informasi yang diperoleh, kebutuhan pasar dunia akan produk inipun terus meningkat yang berarti peluang yang menjanjikan baik untuk pasar domestik ataupun pasar ekspor. Saat ini nilai jual Na-Alginat dipasaran sekitar 170-200 ribu per kilogram.

Many of us have heard the phrase, "It takes money to make money" - well, there's more than a grain of truth to it. Smart investments save us both time and money in the long run. Do your research, and don't be afraid to spend a few dollars.

> Force yourself to do a little most days.
